Better late than never
I installed a Mercedes A-class filter - W168. Specifically, a SCT-ST800. It costs some 20% of the BMW part and works perfectly! Not surprising, since it has identical specifications.
Issues:
1. It is larger (mostly wider), so I had to build a new band to hold it. Still, there is enough room for it.
2. The RTN hose is wider (10mm), but since it is not a high pressure hose, any fuel grade hose will do.
3. It has 2 exits. I sealed the "CAN" exit with Epoxy for Aluminum.
Some history:
This is my 3rd filter in 210,000 km. I replace them whenever the idling becomes unstable, and it solved the problem 3 times. This time I got a new OEM filter from abroad, but it was faulty, and since I was afraid of a fault in the line, I decided to look for a replacement. Most happy now.
